# Odds Bets: The Best Odds Betting Style for Max Profit

The best kept “secret” in craps is the odds bet, also called the “free odds bet”. But there right ways and wrong ways to make these bets. We will show you two ways to improve your overall profit.

## When and Where To Place an Odds Bet

If a “point is established” after the come-out roll, players may then also place an odds bet. Pass line betters may “take the odds” by placing an additional wager on the “odds bet” by placing chips near their pass line chips. Don’t Pass betters may “lay the odds” by placing an additional wager on the odds bet by placing chips near their don’t pass chips. The odds bets are usually placed in an unmarked area of the craps table. Some craps tables include a blank box near each of the pass line and don’t pass area.

## How Much Can You Bet

Depending upon the casino, the odds bet may be made in multiples of the original bet from 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x, 20x, 100x or a combination called a “3-4-5X Odds”. In the mixed odds bets, the maximum bets will depend upon which point is established. The payouts on numbers 4 or 10 is 3x, numbers 5 or 9 is 4x and on numbers 6 or 8 the payout is 5x of the pass line or don’t pass bets. The maximum bet value is also limited to the table limits, so bet accordingly.

## Free Odds Bet

The odds bets are called “free odds bets” because the casino does not a house edge on these individual bets. However, because players must already have a pass line or don’t pass bet, the casino still maintains a house edge on the overall total of the players bets.

## The Odds Bet Payouts

The payout on the odds bets are dependent upon the point which is established after the come out roll. The payouts are based on the probability that they will occur and are consistent with the true odds. Payouts for numbers 4 & 10 are 2 to 1 for pass line bets and 9 to 5 for don’t pass bets. Payouts for numbers 5 & 9 are 3 to 2 for pass line bets and 7 to 5 for don’t pass bets. Payouts for numbers 4 & 10 are 2 to 1 for pass line bets and 9 to 5 for don’t pass bets. Payouts for numbers 6 & 8 are 6 to 5 for pass line bets and 7 to 6 for don’t pass bets.
